ORGANIZATION: Lowell National Historical Park

  • 3 people are interested

Lowell National Historical Park is looking for volunteers to join our team of interpretive rangers who work to tell the story of one of the country's most important historical sites.

As a volunteer interpretive ranger you can expect to help visitors navigate throughout the park, interpret the story of Lowell and the people who shaped it, and occasionally help staff special events. You may also be asked to answer the telephone, make sure the brochures in the Visitor Center are well stocked, and as well as light clerical work (e.g. printing signs).

You will primarily be working indoors. We currently have positions open on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays. Volunteers typically work one four hour shift per week, and many volunteer year round.

About Lowell National Historical Park

Location:

67 Kirk St., Lowell, MA 01852, US

Mission Statement

Lowell National Historical Park preserves and interprets the nationally significant historic and cultural sites, structures and districts in Lowell, Massachusetts, that represent the most significant planned industrial city in the United States and symbolize, in physical form, the Industrial Revolution. The park tells the story of the Industrial Revolution and the changing role of technology in a 19th and 20th century setting. The cultural heritage of many of the ethnic groups that immigrated to the U.S. during the 19th and early 20th century, and which continues today, is still preserved in Lowell's neighborhoods. The park provides a vehicle for economic progress in the community, encouraging creative and cooperative preservation and interpretive programs.

Description

The park operates a Visitor Center and two major exhibits or museum facilities, the Mogan Cultural Center and Boott Cotton Mills Museum. It partners with the University of Massachusetts Lowell in the operation of the hands-on learning center for schools, the Tsongas Industrial History Center. It operates a reconstructed trolley system and canal boat tours. It plays the major role in a number of key city cultural events, including the Lowell Folk Festival and Summer Music Series. It maintains historic buildings, canal structures, and landscapes.
