United Way Suncoast’s ReadingPals program is seeking passionate, committed volunteers to connect with students in kindergarten through 3rd grade who need a little extra help with their reading skills. Volunteers spend an hour each week (or one hour every other week with a volunteer partner) with a student in an afterschool setting. ReadingPals read books, complete fun learning activities and help students develop skills that are needed for success in school. As an added bonus, the student takes home a book each month to build his/her own home library! In addition to helping students to improve their reading skills, ReadingPals also helps to create a love of reading!

Mission Statement

To provide leadership that improves lives and creates lasting community change by mobilizing the caring people of our communities to give, advocate and volunteer.

Description

United Way Suncoast is called by its mission to advance the common good in our community.

When we advance the common good, we create opportunities for a better life for all. We all win when a child enters school ready to learn. We all win when children and youth are successful academically and graduate from high school. We all win when families are financially stable and parents are employed and maintain independence through retirement.

These are the building blocks to a strong community. Addressing the underlying causes of problems, we can create long-lasting change...with your help.

Volunteer with United Way:

Give an hour. Give a Saturday. Give your best. We all have special talents. Things we can do to help. And when we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. Whether its reading to children, or leading financial literacy classes for hard-working families, or delivering meals to homebound seniors, there are volunteer opportunities available every day. Take action. Give the gift of you. Volunteer Tampa Bay!
