Are you passionate about social justice? An internship with Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto (CLSEPA) may be a good fit for you!

Position Description:

You will assist Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto’s busy and dynamic immigration program providing administrative and clerical support. The clientele is mostly Spanish speaking so excellent spoken and written Spanish and English are a must. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manage client inquiries

• Conduct screenings

• Assist in case management

• Help plan and execute immigration workshops

• Assist with translations from Spanish to English, when applicable

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Fluent in Spanish

• Excellent attention to detail

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Empathy, professionalism, and commitment to low-income and underserved communities

• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Applications and Dropbox

Commitment:

Minimum one day or two days per week / semester or quarter

Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto provides free and low-cost legal services to disadvantaged and underserved individuals and families in East Palo Alto, East Menlo Park, and the surrounding counties. CLSEPA delivers high quality legal services through direct representation, advice to pro per litigants, and community education. We assist clients with: immigration, housing, anti-predatory lending, loan modification, small business, and consumer law issues.

Founded in East Palo Alto, Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto (CLSEPA) is a nonprofit offering legal services that improve the lives of low-income families throughout the region. We specialize in immigration, housing, workers’ rights, records clearance and consumer protection. Our team of attorneys, paralegals and social worker work side-by-side with low-income communities and partner with community-based organizations, churches, and sc hools to bring about lasting change. We train and support community members to navigate the legal system and exercise their rights. We use multiple, innovative strategies, including community education, individual legal advice and representation, legal assistance to community groups, policy advocacy, and impact litigation. Our impact is magnified by the support we receive from impassioned volunteers at law firms, corporations, and law schools throughout the region, who collectively donate millions of dollars in legal services annually to our clients. In 2016, our expert legal staff, along with hundreds of volunteers, helped over 6,000 individuals.
