Volunteers! We need help coordinating and running a Farm to Fork dinner at Kualoa Ranch on Saturday September 17, 2016 to help raise funds for ocean health and watershed restoration.
We also have a portion of this fundraiser on Makai side, a festive Ocean Race Fundraiser on Kailua Bay Saturday November 5, 2016! Volunteer are also needed for that date! For details on this event look at our website: http://www.huihawaii.org/fundraiser.html

Hui o Ko'olaupoko (HOK) is excited to announce the launch of our 2016 Makai to Mauka Annual Fundraiser. This year’s fundraiser includes two events that reflect HOK’s mission of: protecting ocean health by restoring the aina: mauka to makai. We hope you will join us in making our 21st anniversary fundraiser a huge success.

The first event, Huaka'i Mauka (journey to the mountains), takes place on Saturday, September 17 th on the beautiful grounds of Kualoa Ranch. This mauka event includes an elegant evening on the ranch featuring tours and libations at HOK’s Hakipu'u Stream Restoration site, followed by a farm to fork dinner prepared by Hawaii’s favorite chefs. In addition, the evening will feature live music, beer and wine, a dessert bar and a robust silent auction.

The second event, Huaka'i Makai (journey to the ocean), takes place on Saturday, November 5 th on Kailua Bay. This makai event includes a race for ocean enthusiasts in the categories of swimming, outrigger paddling and stand-up paddle boarding, choosing from three different courses in Kailua Bay. This event is a partnership with Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks and Kanaka Ikaika and aims to raise awareness about HOK’s efforts to protect ocean health.

Funds raised from these events will be used for on-going restoration project maintenance and engaging community members in volunteer activities in Ko'olaupoko. These two events will bring together a cross-section of our volunteers, supporters and project partners.

Mission Statement

Protecting ocean health by restoring the aina: mauka to makai.

Description

The mission of Hui o Koolaupoko is to protect ocean health by restoring the aina: mauka to makai.

Throughout the Koolaupoko moku (Makapuu to Kualoa) in Windward Oahu, land-based pollution is a leading threat to ocean health and resources. Hui o Koolaupoko (HOK) addresses these problems by being a leader in community-based watershed management; working with communities to improve water quality through ecosystem restoration, implementing low-impact retrofits (LIR), reducing non-point source pollution and developing education, outreach and volunteer programs for all ages.

Along with HOK’s restoration work in Koolaupoko, the organization provides services including technical consultation, restoration design, trainings and watershed restoration capacity building throughout Oahu and the State of Hawaii.
