Do your employees love animals? Are you looking for a meaningful way for your employees to give back to the community?
With volunteer assistance, we can dedicate most of our financial resources to the care of our pets. Additionally, our volunteers provide extensive socialization, handling and training for our animals so they have the best chance for a second chance with new families.
Best Friends - Atlanta offers half day volunteer opportunities for our corporate partners for up to 20 of their employees at a time.
Here is what a typical half-day volunteer opportunity looks like for your company:
- Arrive at APRA at 10am or 1pm for a 3-hour shift. The dress code is long pants, t-shirt and closed toe shoes.
- Brief orientation and adoption center tour, then our Volunteer Coordinator divides your group into teams, which will rotate as tasks are completed.
- There is a total of three areas. In the dog area, with supervision, they will be able to walk the dogs, socialize with them and help keep the kennel clean. In the cat area, they can play and cuddle with the cats and kittens and help keep the area clean. The third area is administration work and each group will help make adoption folders and other materials needed for adoptions. Other projects may be available as well.

Mission Statement
Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption (APRA) is a non-profit, no-kill shelter dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating dogs and cats so they can be adopted into safe and loving forever homes.
Description
Values
- Adoption: We rescue unwanted or mistreated animals so they have a second chance in loving forever homes that are the best fit for them. Unlike other rescues, we provide the medical care and enrichment/training to make our animals adoptable pets. Our goal is to match them with owners who will properly care for them for the remainder of their lives.
- Education: We educate the public about responsible pet ownership through counseling, presentations and seminars, and distribution of educational materials. Whether shelter visitors leave with a pet or not, they will leave with knowledge that makes them better pet owners.
- Responsibility: While we endeavor to reduce and hopefully someday end homelessness for dogs and cats in metro Atlanta, we conscientiously manage our adoption fees, donations and other funds to provide quality care for rescued animals and sustain our operations.
Programs
APRA provides a multifaceted enrichment program to ensure the maximum well-being of our animals so they are able to transition successfully to new, forever homes. Also, we give back to the community through outreach programs for area nursing home residents, at-risk youth, and injured soldiers transitioning to civilian life.
