Position: Family Advocate Volunteer (Vietnamese speaker)
Organization: Compass Family Services helps homeless families and families at imminent risk for homelessness to achieve housing stability, family well-being, and self-sufficiency. We are the access point for any SF family facing a housing crisis and our services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, rental assistance, early childhood education, mental health support, in addition to a broad spectrum of counseling, parenting education, prevention, and support services.
Reports to: Program Director
Hours: Flexible
We are seeking a Vietnamese speaker to assist Case Managers with interpretation and follow up with families regarding services. The function of this position is to support monolingual Vietnamese speaking families in accessing services. Additional duties may include administrative duties, organizing the drop-in center, and prepping the food closet and other goods/donations. Fingerprinting and TB test will be required at time of orientation, at agency’s expense.
Responsibilities and Projects:
• Advocate for families
• Make phone calls and meet with families, generally with a case manager also present
• Assist with drop in services
• Consult with Case Managers regarding how to best serve families
• Assist families with accessing resources
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong interest in advocating for families experiencing or at risk of homelessness
• Commitment to confidentiality
• Experience working with the Vietnamese community
• Interested in gaining experiencing in social services
• Parents are strongly encouraged to apply
• Families with Vietnamese background/competency are strongly encouraged to apply
