PACT Humane Society

PACT Humane Society is in need of individuals willing to provide temporary home care for animals in need.

Many cats are abandoned and live outside; these cats start having kittens in February and March.

These kittens are brought to humane societies by good Samaritans who have found them in window wells, garages, storage sheds, under decks, etc.

Because of the tremendous quantity of kittens being brought to us, we need a tremendous number of foster care providers to help these animals in need.

Feral kittens will need to be "tamed" because they have not been exposed to humans. Volunteer Foster Care Providers are needed to work with these kittens to domesticate them.

GENERAL FOSTER CARE PROVIDER
Because we sometimes do not have space for an animal in critical need, whether recovering from surgery or illness, or in emotional distress after being abandoned by their families, or simply needing a break from cages at our PETsMART Luv-A-Pet Adoption Centers, we rely on our Foster Care Providers to meet our mission. Foster Care Providers welcome cats/kittens into their homes to provide him/her with all necessary pet care -- especially nurturing.

HOW MUCH TIME?
Fostering can be as short as a few days - a cat/kitten recovering from surgery, or around a week to ten days when recovering from a common illness. Pregnant cats or very young kittens require a 3-4 month commitment with multiple trips to our veterinary hospital. Long-term foster homes are needed for special needs cats. The time requirement is dependent upon each individual situation. Our Foster Care Manager matches up the needs of each cat with those of the foster care provider.

YOUR HELP IS VERY MUCH NEEDED!
Please consider providing a very vital and necessary service to the animals by becoming a foster care provider. A litter box and carrier are provided upon request.

DO YOU HAVE A BARN OR KNOW OF ONE?
Also needed are barn owners and horse stables to provide permanent living space for wild/feral cats that must be relocated.

Mission Statement

People & Animals in Community Together Humane Society (PACT) is committed to improving animal welfare by:

1) Finding new, loving, and permanent homes for stray, abandoned, and given-up cats and dogs.

2) Creating and promoting activities and resources that prevent animal abuse, neglect, or mistreatment.

3) Developing and administering programs that enable current pet owners to retain their pets when difficult situations arise such as life changes, financial difficulties, physical debilitation, or age limitations.

4) Educating and serving the community through our outreach programs on animal welfare issues including social responsibility, pet over-population, respect for animals, and proper animal care, treatment and training.

Description

People and Animals in Community Together Humane Society (PACT) is a no-kill, not-for-profit, and all volunteer animal shelter and educational organization. We were established in April of 2000 in Downers Grove, Illinois.

PACT Humane Society is staffed by volunteers who serve in many different capacities including daily animal care providers (cleaning and socialization), adoption counselors, management team members, program coordinators, and advisers. We operate out of Bloomingdale, IL with a satellite adoption center in Skokie, IL.

To date we have adopted out over 5,000 cats and dogs in our 12 year history.

We are no-kill, only euthanizing animals in advanced stages of cancer or liver disease, or an untreatable illness, where there is no quality of life or hope of recovery.

We have rescued thousands of animals from animal control facilities where they would have been euthanized within a matter of days.

We rescue older animals and "less-than-perfect" ones, such as dogs with heartworm, and cats with FIV or diabetes, cats missing tails, eyes or legs.
