Description

The Organization for Bat Conservation (OBC) is a nonprofit environmental education organization dedicated to educating and inspiring people to actively save bats. At the Bat Zone-our home base at Cranbrook Institute of Science-we care for more than 150 bats from around the world as well as owls, flying squirrels, sugar gliders, skunks and a two-toed sloth. We bring our animal ambassadors to schools, libraries and museums, allowing people to see these amazing animals up close and learn ways to protect them. OBC is a fast-growing nonprofit with national reach. Through its live animal programs, Bat Zone tours, traveling exhibit, and Save the Bats campaign, OBC reaches roughly 250,000 each year, activating kids and adults to become involved in bat conservation. The Organization for Bat Conservation presents thousands of educational programs every year on the benefits, misunderstandings, and uniqueness of bats. Thousands of programs have been given to schools, nature centers, stores, zoos, parks, museums, and other interested groups and clubs. Live bats are one of the highlights in each program. All the bats OBC uses in presentations are either non-releasable, permanently injured, or captive-bred bats donated from zoos to use for educational purposes. Each year, The Organization for Bat Conservation rescues hundreds of displaced bats through humane evictions. Many members and volunteers have donated time and money for much-needed items (such as food and medical costs). All donations are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated.
