Do you enjoy history? Do you enjoy sharing it with others? Would you like to learn more about the rich history of Wilmington? If these things appeal to you, you have found the perfect niche at the Latimer House in downtown Wilmington!

The Latimer House needs dedicated weekday volunteers with administrative skills and office experience. The Lower Cape Fear Historical Society is a non-profit member supported organization, and relies on the skills of our volunteers. As an administrative volunteer you would assist with operational responsibilities, mailings and communications, connecting community members with historical resources, aid with planning and coordinating fundraising activities and events, promote the Society within the local community, and other clerical duties as needed.

Mission Statement

The Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, Inc. (LCFHS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to the preservation and promotion of the history of the Lower Cape Fear region since 1956. The Society concentrates on preserving records and disseminating knowledge of local history.

Description

LCFHS has led the restoration and exhibition of the Latimer House, a noteworthy example of Victorian Italianate Revival architecture, since 1963. Within the walls of Latimer, LCFHS leads tours, educational programs and exhibits, and special events. The Latimer House is also home to our comprehensive collection of over 600 artifacts and an extensive archive and library. Since October 1957, LCFHS also publishes pathbreaking historical research in the LCFHS Bulletin.
