The Ronald McDonald Family Room is an extension of the services provided by the Ronald McDonald House of Durham and Wake located inside the hospital. The Family Room is a warm, welcoming, restorative space for parents and caregivers who have a child receiving treatment on a pediatric unit. Caregivers are provided with food and other resources so they can better support their child during a difficult time.
Volunteers are the heart of our Family Room program. Dedicated volunteers ensure the Family Room remains open at least 12 hours each day. They perform various hospitality-related tasks, uphold all Family Room and hospital policies, and show kindness and support to those who visit the room.
These are regular, committed volunteer positions. In order to serve families well, we rely on volunteers to be consistent. Due to the nature of the role, we ask that all volunteers be 21 years of age or older.

Ronald McDonald House Charities, a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) corporation, creates, finds and supports programs that directly improve the health and well being of children. Its grassroots-driven programs offer help where children need it most - right in their own communities. RMHC makes an immediate, positive impact on children's lives through its global network of local Chapters in 52 countries and regions and its three core programs: the Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald Family Room and Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. These programs provide a bridge to accessible health care and allow families more time together, which helps in the healing process. RMHC and its global network of local Chapters also have hundreds of millions of dollars in grants and program services to children's programs around the world.

- Volunteer onboarding includes background check, letters of reference, health screening and attendance at two orientation sessions. Annual flu shot during flu season is also required.
