SCOPE OF WORK:

The Donations Employment Intern will work closely with both the Donations Coordinator and the Employment Specialist, splitting the time between the programs. As a member of the employment team, interns are responsible for assisting refugees become self-sufficient through employment. This position will also assist in the process of receiving and distributing donations while pursuing and building community partnerships to increase in-kind donations. The intern must be willing to lift and move furniture and will be required to interact with a number of individuals of differing ethnicities and English-language capabilities. Additional duties are assigned to interns based upon Donation needs and Employment Program needs, and the skills, abilities, and interests of the intern.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

Each Employment Team intern is given responsibility for a group of 2-6 clients, known as a Job POD, interns are expected to do the following with their POD:

  • Teach refugees how to navigate the US job system from networking, to filling out applications, to following-up and interviewing.
  • Assist refugees in identifying and marketing their skills and abilities.
  • Create and maintain relationships with prospective and current employers including troubleshooting problem areas related to refugee employment such as hygiene, transportation, communication, and time management.
  • Keep physical and electronic records of refugee employment related activities.

Donations assistance will include the following:

  • Organizing and tracking in-kind donations in storage units and office storage
  • Assisting with pickup and delivery of in-kind donations
  • Tracking distribution and aiding Donations Coordinator with reporting
  • Other event planning and related duties as assigned

Posistion Logistics:

  • Length of Service: 10 week minimum commitment
  • Compensation: This an unpaid internship
  • Hours: 15 or more hours a week, in 3+ hour blocks, scheduling is flexible
