ServiceWorks at CPDC seeks engaged and enthusiastic adults to become Success Coaches and Skill Building Trainers to young adults in the DC metro area.Volunteers are needed at Edgewood Commons in Northeast DC and Stony Brook Apartments in Alexandria, VA.

What is ServiceWorks? ServiceWorks - powered by AmeriCorps, Citi Foundation, and Points of Light Foundation - is a groundbreaking, national program that uses volunteer service as a strategy to equip 16-24 year-old Service Scholars with college and career readiness skills. The ServiceWorks team at CPDC aims to mobilize 300 young adults in the DC metro area through civic engagement and service leadership and work directly with youth in CPDC communities. We are seeking professionals, like you, to serve as volunteer Success Coaches and work directly with the youth in your community.

Who is CPDC? Community Preservation Development Corporation (CPDC) is a local non-profit real estate developer dedicated to providing safe, high-quality, and affordable housing for low-and moderate-income individuals and families. Through innovation and partnership, CPDC strives to foster diverse, vibrant communities through resident and volunteer engagement. Since 2006, CPDC has leveraged volunteer time and talent to address critical community needs. Become a volunteer with ServiceWorks to ensure that CPDC and communities together, grow and thrive.

Our Mission: Through community engagement, training, and mentorship, under-resourced young adults within CPDC's affordable housing communities will obtain employability skills to advance their college and career goals. We are seeking professionals to be trained and serve as Success Coaches to equip scholars with tangible skills through individual engagement.

Success Coach Responsibilities include:

  • Work with Service Scholars to assist with goal-setting and goal-completion
  • Assist with skills training such as resume building, interview skills, job/college applications etc.
  • Affirm and apply Service Scholar's grasp on skill building concepts
  • Apply experiential learning to leadership and marketability skills
  • Encourage the building of professional/personal network

Skill Building Trainer responsibilities include:

  • Potential candidates may be interviewed prior to being selected and must pass the required background check
  • Facilitate up to five workshops for Service Scholars
  • Engage scholars using interactive tools, videos, activities, and conversations
  • Assist in the construction and implementation of a scholar-led community service project
  • Relate community engagement to 21st century skills in communication, leadership, and program management

Qualifications:

  • Potential candidates may be interviewed prior to being selected and must pass the required background check
  • Excited and committed to forming meaningful relationships with youth age 16-24
  • Experience navigating the college/career process and comfortable speaking from their own experiences
  • Sensitive to needs of scholars in urban environments and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Available during afternoon, evening, or weekend hours
  • High school diploma, in college, or completed Bachelor's degree/advance degree
