The Bonny Sosa Tuesday Night Race Series is a family tradition of fun runs heading into its 48th season. Runners can choose from three course options - the Lightning course for competitive runners, the Farm course for recreational runners, and the Munchkin course for those under 12 years of age or the young at heart.
A vital part of this series are the volunteers who donate their time helping check registrants in, helping set up and tear down the course, sweeping the course to ensure participants' safety, as well as other tasks. Below are some of the opportunities available for people interested in volunteering with us.
Registration Volunteers - Set up tables and signage, check in registrants, and pass out wrist bands. Volunteers are generally paired with P&R staff. Time commitment per race: 2 hours (5:00pm-7:00pm)
Set up/Clean up at Start & Finish Area Volunteers - Help with start/finish areas, set up finish chute, course clean up, take down registration area, and load and unload vehicles. Time commitment per race: Set up 1.5 hours (4:30pm- 6:00pm), take down 30 minutes (8:15pm-8:45pm)
Course Sweepers - Walk courses to insure that all racers are off the course. Time commitment per race: 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Course Setters - D esign and mark course for weekly race. Please submit a course map to Programmer 10 days before the event. Munchkin course is to be under 3k and stroller friendly. Farm usually stays on wider trails and is 5-10k for recreational runners. Lightning is to be a competitive challenging course and up to 12k. Current P&R policy requests that wetlands are avoided; the bluff at Kincaid is avoided due to erosion issues. Courses are generally set the day of the event. Courses are shortened as fall progresses due to loss of daylight. Time commitment per race: minimum 4 hours.
Post-Race Course Clean up Volunteers - Take down all course markings and signage. This needs to be done within 24 hours, generally on the Wednesday after the race. Time commitment-1-4 hours
