What will I be doing as a TAX SITE SPECIALIST?
The tax site specialist (TSS) provides customer support and service for taxpayers receiving services from Prepare + Prosper (P+P). Working closely with the tax site manager, the TSS keeps the multi-step process smooth running. The TSS plays an integral role to ensure a positive experience for P+P customers. Tax knowledge not required!
Role and responsibilities:
- Initiate the customer sign-in process, ensuring that customers meet the basic eligibility requirements for services
- Answer customer questions and act as a navigator through the multi-step process
- Assist in the overall operation and flow of the tax clinic
- Go over completed tax return with customers and secure necessary signatures
- Provide the initial and final "P+P friendly face" for customers
Skills required:
- Passion for connecting with people
- Strong leadership skills and ability to work independently
- Ability to relay complex information in a clear and direct manner
- Ability to multi task in a sometimes chaotic environment
- Enjoy working in a diverse ethnic and socio-economic environment
- No previous tax experience is necessary
Timeline and Commitment:
- October -December: Attend a new volunteer orientation
- December & January: Complete 8-10 hours of in-person and online training
- January 21-April 16, 2016: Volunteer one, four hour shift per week and impact the lives of your community!
Locations: P+P operates 8 tax sites across the Twin Cities metro area, with locations in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington and Hopkins. Volunteers select a tax site that is convenient to work, home, or school. Our main office is in St. Paul off of University Avenue near the intersection University Avenue West & Highway 280.

Prepare + Prosper, formerly known as AccountAbility Minnesota, assists Minnesotans to move out of poverty by providing pathways to increase income, build assets and become financially secure, and by advocating for change that breaks down barriers to financial success.
Description
For 45 years, P+P has provided free tax and financial services to low- and moderate-income taxpayers. We facilitate economic security by helping many of the people we serve use their tax refunds to help them meet basic needs, build credit, and save.
Leveraging the support of more than 550 volunteers, we prepare taxes and offer financial services to thousands of Minnesotans via free clinics around the Twin Cities. In addition to ensuring that our customers claim all the tax credits they earned, we address the "money moment" of tax time connecting people to financial services that create pathways to economic security.
With the support of staff, our volunteers work cooperatively at our free tax clinics and are the core of our ability to provide these services in our community each year.
