About Bridging the Gap connecting traumatic brain injury survivor

Location:

2058 N MILLS AVE 641, CLAREMONT, CA 91711, US

Mission Statement

Many times, brain-injured patients are released from the hospital to go home to families who are not prepared for the transformation that has taken place in their loved one. Our goal is to enlist sponsors who will help us start a network of facilities that will be available free of charge. These facilities will assist families in learning how to understand and best care for their survivor. The resources would also be available to the survivor for interactive rehabilitation by trained volunteers, as well as a place for camaraderie with their peers. Recently, we have added giving a scholarship to a veteran or disabled student at Citrus Community College with TBI or PTS. Helping these students with some of the financial burden of academic goals.

Description

Bridging the Gap was just a thought until a discussion turned it into encouragement from Peter F. Drucker in 2003. He knew I had survived a near-fatal car accident in 2000, then researched my own recovery working with doctors and therapists at local hospitals. Nowhere could I find a comprehensive enough grouping of therapies, legal information, hospitals, day care facilities, websites, or other TBI survivors to feel that I had the most up-to-date information and resources to maintain my recovery and reach my full potential. So with Peter saying, "if no one else is doing it, you may have to," I started this organization.
