We are Turning Point, a non-profit serving low-income familes and at-risk youth! We currently offer a free afterschool tutoring program which serves families throughout Shoreline as well as a community giving garden, weekend foodpacks, and a summer day camp.

We are currently looking for a few people who can help organize and participate in our Weekend Foodpacks program starting late September, which helps provide food for kids who have been identified as chronically hungry over the weekends. Here are the positions:

-Shop for foodpacks once a month at Costco & Fred Meyer. Turning Point provides the shopping list and reimburse you for all purchases.

-Assemble foodpacks with a team once a month. It would be great to have someone supervise this process and provide quality control of sorts to make sure the foodpacks are filled with the right amount of food. We will find a team to help you.

-Deliver foodpacks on Thursday or Friday to Meridian Park and Parkwood Elementary Schools every week.

Would you like to volunteer your time and skills by participating in serving youth in any of these ways? Want to try it once and see how it goes? Contact Angela at angela@turningpointseattle.org to learn more! We can't wait to hear from you!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to strengthen at-risk youth and families through quality programs, activities, and opportunities that provide relationship, coaching and education by partnering with the community to break cycles of poverty.

Description

One of our primary programs at Turning Point is "Homework Factory" - an academic program held at an elementary school in Shoreline which has a high percentage of low-income and disadvantaged children. With 500 students of rich cultural diversity, over 30 languages spoken in the home, and 60-70 students in ESL, the demand for additional support is growing while budgets are shrinking. Homework Factory provides free after school homework support and tutoring for kids and a positive, safe environment for students who desperately need it. Currently we have approximately 30 students, 2nd-6th grade enrolled with a waiting list. There is far more need than we can meet.
