Since 1951, Friends of Youth has been helping young people in challenging circumstances get their lives back on track.

Today, Friends of Youth positively impacts over 5,000 youth and young adults ages 0-24 and their families each year, operating facilities and programs at 25 sites in 18 cities across the Puget Sound region.

In addition to operating the only overnight youth shelters on the Eastside, we offer youth development initiatives, in-home family support for young parents of newborns, parent education, youth and family counseling, substance abuse counseling, therapeutic foster care, residential treatment and transitional housing for homeless young people and teen mothers.

Farms for Life, another nonprofit, is dedicated to serving people in transition, supporting local farmers, and protecting agricultural lands. We will achieve this by providing quality produce from local farms and nutritional education to people in transitional programs through the agencies that serve them. During the summer we receive a box of vegetables from Farms for Life. We need volunteers to help prepare the produce to go out to our program sites.

Produce shares are picked up on Tuesday and prepared for 5 different sites. Volunteers can expect their shift to last anywhere from 2-3 hours depending on the size of the group (possibly up to 4 hours if just an individual is working). We will continue to pick up vegetables throughout the summer into the first or second weekend of October.
