The Relay For Life of Fairport is recruiting for its 2016 Event Leadership Team and you are invited to join us!
What is Relay For Life? Relay For Life is a community walk that takes place each spring/summer to benefit the American Cancer Society and raise cancer awareness in our community. Just about everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, and the members of the Event Leadership Team volunteer their time to help organize and host the Relay For Life event each year, making the event a memorable, inspirational, and exciting moment for all participants who attend!
What does the Event Leadership Team do? The Event Leadership Team helps to organize the annual Relay For Life event - assisting with such aspects as marketing, team development, sponsorships, survivorship, logistics, entertainment, activities, ceremonies, food and hospitality, youth recruitment, and more!
When does the Event Leadership Team meet? The Event Leadership Team meets once per month until our annual event in June. There are also other volunteer opportunities to help sit at tables, pass out information, network with local business owners, and more!
What is the commitment? All Event Leadership Team members are asked to attend one monthly meeting (lasting about 60- 90 minutes) to discuss planning progress, tasks, and goals. Event Leadership Team members are asked to dedicate different amounts of time, depending on chosen role. If you have a busy schedule and would like to help out when you can squeeze it in, try our sponsorships sub-committee. Sponsorship sub-committee members contact local businesses when they have time to see if they would be interested in sponsoring our event each year. If you have lots of time to spare, think about helping with our Team Development sub-committee, keeping in touch with participants to keep them up to date with what our Relay For Life is doing, and thank them for their time and fundraising efforts. There’s a role for everyone, and we can find the one to fit your schedule!
How can you learn more? Email Hillary Gozigian at Hillary.Gozigian@cancer.org to request a committee brochure and see a list of all the different roles you can help with!
This past year, the Relay For Life of Fairport raised more than $52,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society! It is because of our Planning Committee volunteers that this is possible! Join us - and become a part of a truly amazing experience you will never forget!

Description
Relay For Life offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event. Teams of people from all walks of life have fun while raising much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness of cancer prevention and treatment.
Relay for Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people to:
- Celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight.
- Remember loved ones lost to the disease. At Relay, people who have walked alongside people battling cancer can grieve and find healing.
- Fight Back. We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease.
