Foster & Banks Walk in Faith Foundation & Real Recognize Real Entertainment Teaching Youth
Song Writing & Music Production Workshop.

Volunteer in a site convient for you, at least two hours once per week is required, can Volunteer up to 10 hours per week.

Program Overview:
• To involve students in activities to stimulate creative writing and positive self-expression.
• To have students involved in activities that promote independence, increase self-worth,
promote positive self-image & self-esteem, & improve interpersonal skills
• To increase positive communication skills.
• To teach students grammar and technical aspects of song writing.
• To give hands on experience with recording a song
• To build confidence in aspiring writers, poets, and singers
• 10 week program, maximum 12 students each session
• Ages:14-18

Steps to Implement Activities:
1.Program & Community buy-in to set up a Teaching Youth Song Writing Program.
2. Nominate students based on: grades, behavior, leadership abilities, greatest progress, risk
factors, etc.
2. Establish volunteer pool of kids to help with all the program activities to be implemented
during each session.
3. Establish a supervisor (PTA/PTO volunteer list, a staff member, the parents of the students who
have signed up for the workshop).
4. Lay out plans for the year:
4a. Open to students 8-18
4b. Coordinate activities for each session of the program for the year.
4c. Song Writing Program will meet once a week for 2 hours or twice a week for 1 hour each meeting.

Teaching Youth Song Writing Program Activities:
1. Writing
2. Technique
3. Recording
4. Performance
5. Stage Presence
6. Connecting
7. Journaling-personal thought tracking
8. Goal Setting-defining wants & needs, learning to accomplish dreams
9. Students will host a music showcase for the community & parents at the completion of the
workshop to show off their hard work

With the support of the community, & Foster & Banks Walk in Faith Foundation will:
1. Work with staff to get ideas for the Song Writing Program.
2. Ask staff/community to make an announcement in class and send an announcement home to parents
via the online newsletter or e-mail. We will also put posters up around community.
3. Organize a fundraiser or find a local sponsor to pay for Song Writing Program t-shirts to
identify the students in the program (which they can design).
4. Estimate the number of students participating in program each session, track data and review
progress.
5. Take photos of the students in Song Writing Program working on a specific project and submit it
to the local newspaper.

• Students will learn positive self-expression through lyrics and music.
• Students’ self- image and attitudes about themselves will be enhanced.
• Students will learn how to appropriately express their thoughts, beliefs, and feelings.
• Students’ positive communication skills will be increased.
• Students will learn to use the same communication techniques to resolve conflicts with peers.

Description

The Foster & Banks Walk in Faith Foundation is a social service agency created to support, educate, and guide children and families located in Los Angeles County. The primary goal of the Foundation is to address the needs of and provide services and support to "at-risk" children, adolescents and young adults experiencing crisis, and those with developmental or learning disabilities. Programs include tutoring designed to improve skills and capitalize on strengths, music classes to stimulate individuality and creativity, and workshops like self-esteem building to foster the confidence needed for youth to be successful in the community. The Foundation will also offer programs like adult support groups, family game nights, and other events for the families of these children to help create more positive and functional family systems.
