LUEWWD XIII: Rocky Horror LUEWWD Show is happening on Saturday, October 3rd at Triangle Brewing Company and will be raising funds for Cribs for Kids Durham.
Cribs for Kids Durham (a program of Welcome Baby operating with Durham County Cooperative Extension) provides new Pack 'n Plays to families that do not have a safe place for their baby to sleep. Along with a new Pack 'n Play, Cribs for Kids shares safe sleep strategies in an effort to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
We hope that you'll join us as a volunteer for this event. LUEWWD events are a ton of fun (yes, even for the volunteers!) and we'd like you to be a part of it!
The basics for each position are described below. Please sign up for a position, and invite your friends to join you at the event.
The time ranges for each volunteer position are estimated; it's possible that you could be finished sooner or we might ask for your help for a little longer if you can stay.
Parking Assistant 7:30-9:30 (4)
Out in the streets helping folks figure out where the heck they can park and then directing them back to Triangle Brewing. Check in with SHEVY.
Admission 7:30-end (2); 8:00-end (3)
Accept admission money and check in different types of guests (e.g., general admission, other volunteers, contestants/entourages, and stage personalities) and put on wristbands. Check in with MAY.
Back Alley Bouncer 7:30-end
This is a no-nonsense position. You'll be monitoring the back alley area and redirecting folks to the admission entrance area-- no exceptions!! Check in with SHEVY.
Raffle Ticket Sales 7:45-10:30 (2)
You'll be walking through the crowd and selling tickets raffle prizes. If you've got sass and are good at making friends on the spot, you ought to sign up for this! Check in with SHEVY.

Mission Statement
The League of Upper Extremity Wrestling Women of Durham, LLC (LUEWWD), strives to improve opportunities for women and girls in Durham by hosting creative, community-based, theatrical women’s arm wrestling competitions to raise funds for other non-profit organizations that serve the target population.
Description
How it works:
- 8 contestants find 4 friends to make their entourage
- They all dress up in a themed costume
- On the day of the event, the entourage moves through the crowd heckling for 'votes’ (aka. MONEY!) from the audience
- Contestants arm-wrestle 3 rounds in a tournament style bracket to become the LUEWWD Champion
- The contestant raising the most money is awarded Madame Moneymaker
- Judges pick the contestant and entourage with the best costume/character and deem her Durham Diva
- Contestants who do not win their first match are entered into the Loser’s Bracket to compete for the Queen of the Losers title
- Most of the time the crowd gets bold and offers money for a chance to arm wrestle contestants, judges, their friends, spouses, etc. Since the point of the event is to raise money we certainly encourage this behavior...but we’re not cheap!
- All proceeds are donated to local organizations who serve women and girls
