Journey to Freedom Volunteers
ORGANIZATION: African American Museum of Iowa
Please visit the new page to apply.
Imagine a runaway slave traveling Iowa’s Underground Railroad in 1853. On this journey, students will encounter slave catchers, farmers, and bounty hunters while trying to navigate their way to Canada. Who can they trust? Will their group make it to freedom? Or will they be captured and sent back into slavery? Join the African American Museum of Iowa and Wickiup Hill:
Friday, September 25 from 8am-2pm
Saturday September 26 from 5pm-8pm
You will take these children back in time to experience perils and triumphs in their Journey to Freedom. Take on a character and help guide students as they learn to navigate using the stars, build a fire, and hide in the Iowa terrain on their way to Canada.
If you are interested in signing up to volunteer for this event, please contact Krystal Gladden at 319-862-2101 x 226 or kgladden@blackiowa.org. Volunteers do not need to have any acting experience.
