ORGANIZATION: Recovery Cafe San Jose

  • 39 people are interested

A companion is literally "someone who breaks bread with another." Cafe Companions come into the Recovery Cafe space to listen, to share a meal or a cup of coffee, to be a friend to members who come here for recovery support. Many members are either homeless or at risk of homelessness, many have mental health issues, nearly all have some form of addiction (drugs, alcohol, or other) for which they are seeking recovery. The time you spend, and the respect you show them, provides needed support. Training is provided.

The Cafe is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays rom 12:00-6:00 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 12:00-4:30 p.m. Must be available at least one of those days, during those hours, to be a Companion.

About Recovery Cafe San Jose

Location:

80 S 5TH ST, SAN JOSE, CA 95112, US

Mission Statement

Recovery Café San Jose is founded on the belief that every human being is precious, worthy of love and deserving of the opportunities to fulfill his or her potential. In this loving community, immediately accessible, long-term recovery support is available to those who need them. Meaningful daily activities and a positive community are powerful forces that help break the patterns and challenges of addiction, unemployment and homelessness.

Description

Recovery Café San José is a healing community for those traumatized by addiction, homelessness, and mental health challenges. We provide a refuge where members gather for group meals, Recovery Circles, classes to learn job and life skills, connections to other community resources, and social activities in a sober and supportive environment. Membership is free, and open to all, but does carry a few requirements: Be clean and sober for 24 hours before entering the Café, Attend weekly Recovery Circle, and Give back through Cafe chores (cleaning, serving meals, etc.). RCSJ also manages an 8-bed transitional housing unit for those recently released from prison and looking for a sober living environment.
