ORGANIZATION: CASA of Santa Barbara County

Every day in this country, 1,900 children become victims of abuse or neglect, and four of them will die. Every day Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Santa Barbara County is seeking volunteers to help in our mission to assure a safe, permanent, nurturing home for every abused and/or neglected child by providing a highly-trained volunteer to advocate for them in the court system. Empowered by the courts, CASA volunteers offer judges critical information they need to ensure that each child’s rights and needs are being attended to while in foster care.

Volunteers stay with children until they are placed in loving permanent homes. For many abused children, a CASA volunteer is the only constant adult presence in their lives. CASA volunteers lift up a child’s voice and advocate for their best interest. CASA volunteers are over the age of 21, make a one year commitment, and come from all walks of life. On average CASA volunteers spend 6-12 hours each month getting to know the child while also gathering information from the child’s family, teachers, doctors, care-givers and others involved in the child’s life.

Statistics show that children with a CASA volunteer are much more likely to find a permanent home and are 50% less likely to re-enter the foster care system. CASA intervention stops the cycle of abuse from one generation to the next. They are more likely to receive necessary educational and developmental services, and they do better in school.

Are ready to make a difference in the life of an abandoned, abused and/or neglected child? Children are waiting...
