Woodland Seedling Tending

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Friends of the Mississippi River

Join us Thursday, September 24, 6-8 p.m. at Dakota County’s newest park, 456-acre Whitetail Woods Regional Park.

Volunteers will install and tend to tree tubes, helping to protect seedlings planted this spring. In addition to protecting the young trees from rabbits and deer, the tubes will shelter them from high winds and create a sort of microclimate to help them make it through their first winter.

Space is limited and registration required. For more information, including how to sign-up, visit: http://fmr.org/events/2015/09/24/woodland-tree-tending.

Mission Statement

Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region.

Description

Friends of the Mississippi River is proud to work with roughly 3,000 volunteers annually.

We keep volunteering simple, fun and satisfying -- there are no applications, and you can sign up for one event or several. We list events especially in need of volunteers here on VolunteerMatch.com, but maintain a full calendar of 60+ events a year at www.fmr.org/events.

Our project work includes conservation and restoration of natural areas and habitat, education on watershed protection issues, and organizing activities that connect the public to the Mississippi River.
