AccentCare is seeking friendly, well-mannered, and calm dogs, of all shapes and sizes (and their people) to join our Loyal Friends Pet Team. These special volunteers are needed to provide companionship, comfort, and even some wet kisses to our terminally ill patients and their families.

Our opportunities are flexible and based on your availability. Therapy pet volunteers can serve both patients and families at our inpatient unit.

Interested pet owners must attend our full volunteer training which fulfills all Medicare requirements for Volunteer Services.

NOTE: Dogs must be certified through Delta Society, Pet Partners, or Therapy Dog International, interviewed by our staff, and the appropriate documentation processed with both the certifying organization and ours, prior to visiting with patients.

Mission Statement

Reimaging care, together to transform healthcare -- and our patients' lives -- for the better.

Description

Hospice volunteers both give and receive many benefits from joining our program.

Volunteers set their own levels of commitment and travel based on their available time and the needs of our patients. Volunteers serve our adult patients of all ages who live within the metro Atlanta area.

Volunteer selection begins with an application and interview where potential volunteers may express their personal goals, availability, interests, and talents.

Volunteers are carefully screened through a criminal background check, motor vehicle report, and personal references.

Direct Care Volunteers help by providing comfort, support, care, and compassion to our patients and their family members, and are required to participate in initial hospice volunteer training as well as basic orientation.

Indirect Care Volunteers help by providing administrative assistance on special projects that enhance the work of our staff and support patients, families and the efforts of the teams in the field. Indirect Care Volunteers receive basic orientation, training specific to task undertaking, and are encouraged to attend initial hospice volunteer training.

Additional support meetings and educational opportunities are offered throughout the year as well as ongoing personal support and social gatherings.
