Description of Role:

The Tasting Table Team will be working with the Learning Gardens team (January - June), providing support in Harvest of the Month activities, leading Tasting Tables at each of the Salem-Keizer School District Elementary Schools (42), and will be leading as examples with community outreach for the Grow, Taste, Learn Mobile and Family AgFest model. This position will have the flexibility to provide support in and out of the office, will be encouraged to have a strong presence at connected schools, and will be given flexibility in days/hours served. This volunteer must attend trainings, orientation, and be able to pass a background screening when working with youth.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Tasting Table Team needs to commit to a minimum of 1.5 hours a week during lunch breaks for assigned schools.

  • Screening and orientation/ training will take place January 18-22nd.

  • Translate and lead on behalf ofLearningGardensteam to provide outreach and communications to the Salem-Keizer School Districts K-12 youth, parents, and faculty/ staff.

  • Lead one tasting table per week at assigned rotating Elementary Schools and each month. This includes, but is not limited to food preparation, preparing activities, event coordination, and working closely with small groups of K-5 th grade youth. The Tasting Table Team will be working in partnership with National FoodCorps Memebers, Salem-Keizer Education Foundation Learning Gardens Team, Sodexo, Cafeteria Staff and Volunteers, as well as teachers.

  • Maintain outreach of Mobile AgFest activities and teacher packets related to Harvest of the Month and Farm to School Bill.

Skills Needed:

  • 2.25 GPA requirement, part or full time students are encouraged to apply, BUT NOT REQUIRED.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Must model positive values through priorities and choices, maintaining confidence to work unsupervised on occasion.
  • Outgoing, energetic, and passionate about working with youth.

Desired Experience:

  • Must be a 18 years or older to apply. (ages 15 - 17 with parent supervision)
  • Personal or professional experience within the education field, food and nutrition services, or public health.
  • Previous volunteer experience with the Salem-Keizer Education Foundation, theSalemKeizerSchool District, youth organizations or with youth.

Minimum Time Commitment:

  • Average 1.5 hours a week minimum commitment during lunch hours (11am-12:30pm) January to June.
  • Available Office hours are: 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Saturday if needed
