ORGANIZATION: Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend

AmeriCorps VISTA Members are full time, PAID volunteers who commit to serving in their community for a 12 month term. As the domestic branch of the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps VISTAs focus specifically on serving low-income individuals in our community. At Big Brothers Big Sisters, our VISTA would serve as the Volunteer Coordinator working primarily to orient potential volunteers and families.

Member Duties: VISTA members increase community support and resources in the form of volunteers (recruit mentors, tutors, and community liaisons), evidence-based services (coordinate activities, parental involvement and after school programs) for youth facing adversity. Members also build capacity through resource development.

Candidates must possess the following:

  • Belief in our vision: that all children achieve success in life;
  • Experience working with youth and volunteer services;
  • Strong interviewing and organizational skills;
  • Ability to make professional judgments and incorporate them into written reports;
  • Ability to have genuine and open interpersonal communications;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment, utilizing a variety of technologies;
  • Comfort with public speaking, recruitment of volunteers and delivering training;
  • Ability to contribute and participate in a team structure;
  • Desire to make a positive impact in this community, through proven 1-to-1 mentoring service delivery.
