Description of Role:

The Seed to Supper Classes Childcare Assistant will be working with theLearningGardens’ Family Engagement Coordinator (January-June), providing supervision and support of children ages 1-8 years of age during evening classes on behalf of the Salem-Keizer Education Foundation. This position will be encouraged to have a positive attitude and engagement with children, and will be provided with weekly activities such movie screenings, craft activities, and snacks during class hours. This volunteer must attend trainings, orientation, and be able to pass a background screening while working with youth.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Seed to Supper Classes Childcare Assistant needs to commit to a minimum of 2hours a week for 5weeks at a time. There will be 4 classes over the year, monthly starting in January.

  • Screening and orientation/ training will take place November 1-10th.

  • Supervision of the 3-5 children during the 5 week Seed to Supper classes. (activities will be prepped and provided in advance for volunteer)

Skills Needed:

  • 2.25 GPA requirement, part or full time students are encouraged to apply, BUT NOT REQUIRED.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and non-verbal. Bilingual Preferred.
  • Knowledge of positive youth development.
  • Must model positive values through priorities and choices, maintaining confidence to work unsupervised on occasion.
  • Outgoing, energetic, and passionate about working with youth ages 1-8.

Desired Experience:

  • Must be a 16 years or older to apply.
  • Personal or professional experience with youth development or childcare.
  • Previous volunteer experience with the Salem-Keizer Education Foundation, theSalemKeizerSchool District, or with youth development.

Minimum Time Commitment:

  • Average 2 hours a week minimum commitment over 5weeks.
  • Class hours are tentative to be 6pm-8pm. Choice of day is to be determined.
  • Available Office hours are: 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Saturday.
