Evening Tutor with Adult English (ESOL) Classes

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Holyoke Tutor/Mentor Program

  • 6 people are interested

Every year in Holyoke adults come to class to learn the English speaking/listening, vocabulary, grammar and reading/writing skills they need to navigate daily life, get a job or go to school.

Volunteer tutors work in a class, providing individual and small group support to these adult learners. Tutors become a valued part of the class, giving students more support and allowing them to progress faster.

Tutors may work one-on-one with a learner who is struggling, allow the teacher to divide the class in small groups, or work with the whole class to provide practical and moral support.

Evening tutors particularly needed! (Although we have some day time classes too!) We will work with you to find a class that suits your schedule, skills and interests.

No formal teaching/tutoring experience is needed - just good communication skills, a desire to help and willingness to learn! You do not have to speak another language to tutor with ESOL classes.

Training is provided. All volunteers complete a free 12 hour training workshop series.
