Position Available: Sugar Creek Farm and Market Intern

SALARY: Small stipend and percentage of market sales at end of term

HOURS: 7 hours per week through market season, must be available on Wednesdays from 1-8

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Farmer’s Market Season

About the Position

The Sugar Creek Farm and Market Intern will help on all facets of our small production urban herb garden/farm. You will learn about production, farm maintenance, growing practices and distribution. You will be responsible for set up, breakdown and selling at a weekly Decatur Farmer’s market. To receive stipend, full term must be complete.

Job Description

· Participate in activities related to a small production herb farm including growing, harvesting, and maintenance, and selling

· Work with site coordinator to meet harvesting goals for market

· Set up and break down stand at Decatur Farmer’s Market including making the table appealing to customers

· Interact with Farmer’s Market customers

· Measure and track harvest outcomes and communicate outcomes to the Site Coordinator

· Handles market money and Square transactions and tracking of herbs sold

Applicant Requirements

· Able to work outside in extreme temperatures and weather conditions

· Knowledgeable of gardening and agriculture

· Punctual

· Warm and friendly with the ability to interact with customers

· Knowledge of herbs a plus

· Enjoys working with people of all ages

· Ability to lift up to 75 pounds

· Creativity

· Ability to approach a project enthusiastically and proactively achieve timelines

· Demonstrates honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times

· Must be able to pass a background check

· Able to drive a stick-shift a plus

· Own a smartphone to use Square App and be comfortable using technology

· Be able to work independently without supervision
