Woodland Restoration for Water Quality

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Great River Greening

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Join Great River Greening this October to improve water quality in Seven Mile Creek! Volunteers are needed to haul and stack buckthorn and other woody invasives from the ravine at the edge of a farm field. These invasive shrubs have degraded the understory of this forested area, leading to erosion and higher rates of runoff. By removing these inbasive shrubs and seeding for understory regrowth, volunteers will help to improve water quality while enhancing habitat for pollinators and other wildlife. Volunteers will also be able to see the farmers’ work toward enrolling ten acres of currently farmed land into the Conservation Reserve Program this fall, as well as three erosion control projects that will be completed shortly before the volunteer event takes place.

Great River Greening will provide all of the training and materials needed for everyone to be able to meaningfully contribute to the event and restoration. We also provide lunch, fruit, coffee, and other refreshments as a thank you to our volunteers.

Pre-registration is required. Register online at http://www.greatrivergreening.org/events/woodland-restoration-october-31/.
