School on Wheels is in need of volunteers to tutor children experiencing homelessness at area homeless shelters, three IPS schools and two Washington Township schools. Tutors are expected to volunteer one hour per week for the duration of one school semester. School on Wheels tutoring sessions primarily take place Mon. - Thurs. between 3:00 - 7:30 p.m.

This is an experience that will truly enrich your life as well as the life of a student experiencing homelessness.

We believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of homelessness.

About Brightlane Learning

Location:

2955 N Meridian St, Suite 250, Indianapolis, IN 46208, US

Mission Statement

We transform the lives of students impacted by homelessness and housing instability with personalized tutoring and academic support while advocating for their families as they navigate the educational system.

Description

Brightlane Learning, founded in 2001, is the one Indianapolis organization that exists solely to meet the specialized academic needs of children experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness. Thousands of children in Indianapolis qualify as homeless each year. This includes youth living in shelters, motels, "doubled up" housing, and on the streets. In short, the problem is far more pervasive than most people realize.
By providing personalized academic support to students and guidance and advocacy to their families, we interrupt the cycle of homelessness with the power
of education.
