Friends Outside has provided support to the incarcerated, their family members, and those recently released for over thirty years in Santa Cruz County. The main goal of the Aftercare program is to help people make positive changes and successfully transition back into our community after their release.
Volunteers provide one-on-one case management to individuals recently released from Santa Cruz County Jail facilities and State Prison facilities. Case Managers help facilitate post-release plans and provide applicable services, along with support and advocacy. Friends Outside can help in the following areas:
- Basic hygiene products and reading glasses
- Referrals for food and shelter
- Clothing and clothing vouchers
- Transportation assistance
- Assistance complying with probation terms
- Legal and criminal justice agency referrals
- Assistance with resume and job searching
- Assistance enrolling in school, Medi-Cal and CalFresh

Our goal is to help reduce the trauma of incarceration for prisoners and their families, to provide information that can lead to positive changes, and to assist post-release clients with their re-entry into the commuity. In general, Friends Outside acts as a liason with concerned individuals, agencies, and the criminal justice system.
