Friends Outside has provided support to the incarcerated, their family members, and those recently released for over thirty years in Santa Cruz County. The main goal of the Re-Entry program is to help people make positive changes and successfully transition back into our community.

Re-Entry Volunteers provide one-on-one case management to individuals recently released from Santa Cruz County Jail facilities and State Prison facilities. Re-Entry Advocates help facilitate post-release plans and provide applicable services to AB109 clients referred from Santa Cruz County Probation Department who have been mandated to work with Friends Outside for a period of 90 days. Friends Outside can help in the following areas:

  • Basic hygiene products and reading glasses
  • Referrals for food and shelter
  • Clothing and clothing vouchers
  • Transportation assistance
  • Assistance complying with probation terms
  • Legal and criminal justice agency referrals
  • Assistance with resume and job searching
  • Assistance enrolling in school, Medi-Cal and CalFresh and other benefits

In general, Friends Outside acts as a liason with concerned individuals, agencies, and the criminal justice system.
