Give a voice to a foster child who needs to be heard and become a CASA of San Mateo County volunteer.
Court Appointed Special Advocates are adult volunteers who connect one on one with a foster child providing constant support for them to succeed. CASA volunteers are role models, mentors, and speak on the child's behalf looking out for their best interest when no one else is listening.
CASA Advocates listen first, then they act. They get to know the child by visiting them weekly as well as communicating with everyone involved in the child's life. They use the information they gather to inform judges and others of what the child needs to thrive. They provide consistent, caring support and make sure the child doesn't get lost in the system.
Currently there are over 150 children in San Mateo County waiting for a CASA volunteer. Dedicate your time to change a child's life.
The first step to becoming a CASA Volunteer is to attend an orientation. The following steps are to complete an application, be interviewed, then attend a series of informational and interactive trainings before being sworn in by the court. The final step is choosing your child to advocate for, then letting your new relationship begin with a child who is waiting for you.

Description
Court Appointed Special Advocates - CASA of San Mateo County empowers YOU to make a difference in the life of a child who has been abused or neglected.
What We do: CASA of San Mateo County recruits, trains, and supports adult volunteers as a powerful voice for the best interest of abused and neglected children who have come under the court’s protection because their parents can’t or won’t take care of them.
What CASA Volunteers do: They listen first. Then they act. Volunteers devote 2-4 hours a week getting to know the child by talking with everyone in that child's life: parents and relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers and others. They use the information they gather to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them. They provide consistent, caring support and make sure the child doesn't get lost in the system.
For many children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives. For many volunteers, CASA is a life-changing experience that makes a difference in our community. Volunteers must be 21years or older.
