Mission Statement
The mission of Danialle Karmanos’ Work It Out in partnership with the DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan (DKWIO) is to promote optimum health in mind, body and spirit through a comprehensive yoga-based approach that reduces anxiety, prevents childhood obesity and increases self-esteem. Founded in 2005, DKWIO is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that delivers quality programming to give children the tools to make healthy choices.
Description
To achieve its mission, DKWIO reaches hundreds of kids each year through a 10-week yoga and nutrition program offered in elementary schools in the fall and winter. A six-week summer program is also offered for elementary-age children in schools and community centers.
The foundation of a healthy body begins with understanding what food makes the body strong, energized and fit. DKWIO incorporates nutritional education into each session. For children to get started on a healthy lifestyle, they need to exercise every day. Yoga benefits both the body and the mind--it’s a physically empowering practice and calms a child’s otherwise busy world.
DKWIO employs a holistic and yoga-based model based on proven, structured tools--such as the program’s unique 1-hour formula--that maximize the organization’s impact and reach. This straightforward, repeatable formula increases the positive impact on children who take part in the program.
