Description
If you enjoy learning about library operations first-hand, consider becoming a Library Support Services Mentee. Mentees gain work readiness skills and real-world
experience that will help them prepare for future careers in San Diego and beyond.

Learning Objectives

Mentees choose from the following options for each rotation. Not all options are available at all library locations, all are available year-round:
Library Apprentice Rotation
Outreach Rotation
Office Assistance Rotation
Research Assistance Rotation
Library Apprentice
Are you interested in the library behind the scenes? You will learn about day-to-day operations of the library, including shelving procedures and rules, organiza-tion and maintenance of materials, and customer service.
Office AssistanceAre you interested in learning how an office operates? You will gain experience in basic office duties and upkeep of office space. Gain professional skills that will help you anywhere.
OutreachAre you interested in helping the library promote its programs and activities though social media, traditional media, and outreach events?
Research AssistanceAre you interested in assisting with research, clerical and editorial projects? Learnto process and analyze data, and assist staff with special projects as needed.
Library Apprentice
Are you interested in the library behind the scenes? You will learn about day-to-day operations of the library, including shelving procedures and rules, organization and maintenance of materials, and customer service.

Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.
