The Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona and the YMCA of Southern Arizona is seeking an outgoing, reliable volunteer with enthusiasm and motivation to help support the local movement to end child sexual abuse.

Project:

The YMCA and the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona have started a movement of epic proportions with a vision to end one of the most devastating epidemics facing children today - child sexual abuse. One in 10 children will face this traumatic experience, usually alone, without any adult help. And, 5% is the answer.

Studies show that training 5% of a community in the awareness and prevention of child sexual abuse can move the needle on the epidemic. We hope to do just that and train 50,000 southern Arizonans in the next five years, with your help!

Preventing child sexual abuse is a job for adults - not children. One of the most proactive and pragmatic approaches to diminishing child sexual abuse is the education of responsible adults. And that’s why Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona and the YMCA of Southern Arizona are taking on this audacious goal. Together we will confront child sexual abuse with courage through Stewards of Children, the only evidence-based, third party evaluated child sexual abuse prevention training available.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Attend meetings with project managers to determine project requirements
  • Assist in the drafting of correspondence to facilitators, future facilitators, and groups interested in training opportunities
  • Help keep the movement going online research, emails, and cold calls
  • Track the movement’s progress
  • Respond to inquiries, schedule trainings, and distribute information about Stewards of Children
  • Assist in the facilitation of Stewards of Children trainings; act as a resource to facilitators, distribute materials and assist in the evaluation and facilitation of grant awards
  • Draft promotional messages for the movement to include emails, websites, and social media
  • Other admin responsibilities and duties as needed

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be passionate about ending child sexual abuse. Proficient in MS office applications, email, and have professional in-person and phone skills; some mentoring and training is available. Candidate must have reliable transportation. Minimum commitment of five hours per week; schedule can be flexible. Please note child abuse prevention training and a background check will be required prior to beginning this volunteer position.

How to apply:

Interested volunteers should email a cover letter and resume, as well as availability and timeframe/requirements to Amanda Thomas, Director of Communications and Special Projects at amandat@tucsonymca.org.
