Become a Fair Housing Tester

The Housing Equality Center of Pennsylvania (HECP) is in need of Fair Housing Testers to assist in uncovering housing discrimination in the Eastern PA region. HECP is a private non-profit organization that investigates complaints of housing discrimination in the City of Philadelphia and Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Northampton and Montgomery Counties.

Trained testers pose as home seekers and visit housing providers to collect information to assist with regional monitoring and investigations. Testers document their experiences objectively.

Requirements for each tester include:

  • Attention to details and excellent writing skills

  • Private email and/or FAX to set up scenarios and submit tests

  • Qualified applicants will have access to a reliable form of transportation

  • Accepted applicants must attend a 3-4 hour training

  • Completion of a paid practice test

  • Permission to conduct a PA state criminal background check

Testers are paid a small stipend for their efforts and are reimbursed for mileage, tolls and postage.
