About the Position:

New Beginnings currently has a need for volunteers on our Helpline. Please consider serving community members who are in a time of crisis and in need of information and kindness to aid in their safety and recovery. Your support makes it possible for individuals to combat isolation and remain connected and supported during a vulnerable time.

About Our Organization:

New Beginnings provides support to anyone age 13+ experiencing intimate partner abuse and is committed to changing attitudes and social institutions that foster and perpetuate violence.

Position Details:

New Beginnings’ Help Line operates 24/7 and is a resource for those experiencing intimate partner violence. As a Helpline Supporter you will work one, four-hour, day-time shift per week. During your shift you will be asked to offer emotional support to callers who are experiencing domestic violence, provide them with resources and create safety plans.

Training & Qualifications

20-hour advocacy training is required. We offer this training bi-annually for all new volunteers.
The upcoming Fall training will begin on September 9th-28th, 2019.
After this comprehensive course, individual training is provided and we go at your desired pace. We ask that you have prior customer service, advocacy, or social services experience, a compassionate and non-judgmental outlook, and an openness to learn the Advocacy Based Counseling Model. Many people feel nervous to answer helpline calls but rest assured it's less intimidating than you think and lots of staff support is offered!
