ORGANIZATION: Project Hawai'i, Inc.

  • 8 people are interested

Project Hawai'i, Inc. is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers and solely supported by public donations. Our agency provides year round services for the homeless and poverty stricken keiki on the islands of Hawai'i (Big Island) and O'ahu. Our mission is to enhance the lives of these precious children and help them escape their cycle of poverty. Our agency provides a well-rounded line up of services to help fullfill our goals.

We are seeking one or two dedicated people who have the time to help organize the community groups, clubs, companies and even individuals to help provide the supportive services we need, or have these groups host their own fundraiser for our annual events.

This position would require the volunteer (you), to contact local groups, clubs, schools, classes, companies, etc., to see if they are either seeking a volunteer or community service project (which we can set up), or if they would like to host a fundraising/awareness event for Project Hawai'i, Inc., on their own.

The following are specific goals we have that would benefit from such events. The said event hoster can choose to specify what they would like to raise the funds for:

  • Food Boxes, Hot/Nutritous Meals, Holiday Meals
  • Clothing, Shoes, School Uniforms
  • Emergency Support Funds...for such things as tents, tarps, sleeping bags, flashlights, etc.
  • Holiday Support
  • Summer Camp Support

Our goals is try to work with a few groups/clubs, etc to host a fundraiser or event once a year. Every event listed above has so many aspects that any financial or material needs will make a huge difference.

Said groups can also include children/teens. Typically those who volunteer with us would be high school students.

WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR GROUPS (etc) TO VOLUNTEER AT THE ABOVE ACTIVITIES. Why am I stating this? It truly becomes the little red hen syndrom. We will have hundreds of people who want to VOLUNTEER to feed the children, but NO ONE to actually bring a meal, help with the prep, cook, clean, buy, etc...so, please keep that in mind while talking with the groups.

For more information, please feel free to contact me.

I also encourage you to tell me more about yourself and your ideas that you would like to move forward with. Mahalo again.

Description

Project Hawai'i, Inc., is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers to enhance the lives of children living in poverty situations on the islands of Hawai'i. Our public supported charity works year round to provide necessities to children living in substandard housing situations, such as tents on the waters edge, abandon vehicles, and make-shift structures hidden in the bushes and hills.

Our agency provides children with holiday parties, meals and services for all the major holidays including Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Other monthly services include providing emergency support, hygiene, food, clothing and outreach to the children living in homeless situations on 3 of the islands of Hawai'i, the Big Island (Hawai'i), Mau'i and O'ahu.

Project Hawai'i also provides educational and nutritional programs that include after school reading and tutoring programs and our summer camp activities. Children will also receive full back to school support from new backpacks filled with supplies, new outfits, and shoes. We also provide other educational needs throughout the year.

Project Hawai'i Summer Camp has ran for 15 years and won several dozen awards in nutrition and educational support. This program is our largest endevor and evolves year after to year to include even more learning opportunities to our keiki.
