International Coastal Cleanup

The ocean supplies the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. Massive amounts of plastics and trash continue to enter our waterways and litter our coasts, threatening wildlife, the environment and the livelihood of communities around the globe. With your support, we can tackle this issue.

Ocean Conservancy invites you to participate in the 2015 International Coastal Cleanup this fall by holding a cleanup in your community.

Since the cleanup began, volunteers in over 150 countries have removed 11 million pounds of trash from our beaches, waterways and ocean each year, helping to protect wildlife, individuals and local economies. Not only do hundreds of thousands of people join together to remove harmful debris from the environment, but they also record what they are collecting and report back to Ocean Conservancy, resulting in a robust global marine debris database that allows us to hone in on solutions.

The beauty of the International Coastal Cleanup is that anyone anywhere can make a difference, whether it’s right on the beach or hundreds of miles inland. Ocean Conservancy invites you to join us in celebrating the 30th anniversary of the International Coastal Cleanup by holding a trash cleanup, no matter the size, in your community. While the official date of the event is Saturday, September 19th, cleanups may occur throughout the month of September. We work with an extensive network of cleanup partners and provide resources like volunteer data cards, informational posters and promotional flyers to augment the on-the-ground effort.

Mission Statement

Founded in 1972, Ocean Conservancy promotes healthy and diverse ocean ecosystems and opposes practices that threaten ocean life and human life. Through research, education, and science-based advocacy, Ocean Conservancy informs, inspires, and empowers people to speak and act on behalf of the oceans. In all its work, Ocean Conservancy strives to be the world's foremost advocate for the oceans. Ocean Conservancy's four strategic priorities reflect the critical ocean conservation issues that will be the main focus of our efforts, including restoring sustainable American fisheries, protecting wildlife from human impacts, conserving special ocean places, and reforming government for better ocean stewardship.

Description

Here at Ocean Conservancy, we believe it's time to look beneath the surface to see where the health of our planet really begins. It's time to recognize the source that sustains us day to day with the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe...to discover that all living things are connected to the ocean. It's time to understand that going green starts with living blue. It's time to start a sea change.
