Internship Description:

Irvine Nature Center is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and organized intern to prepare for and lead hands-on, outdoor environmental education programs for school-aged children. The intern will be trained to implement science-based lesson plans and will learn local natural history, trailside activities, and teaching techniques. Other general duties include assisting with live animal care, program materials maintenance, trail and garden work, and exhibit interpretation.

Qualifications:
  • Applicants must be interested in natural sciences, environmental science, science education, outdoor recreation, or related fields
  • Work experience with children
  • Strong interest in the environment and natural history
  • Strong interest in education
  • Familiarity with (or enthusiasm to learn) a variety of environmental education activities
  • Your own transportation
· Excellent communication skills

Majors:

Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Outdoor Education, or Human Services. Natural sciences, Environmental Science or related fields also considered.

Hours:· 20-30 hours per week
  • Must have availability between 8am-4pm
  • Monday-Friday, some evening and weekends will be required
  • Must be available for training dates September 8, 10, 15, & 17 from 9:30-12:30
  • Start date: September 1 st End Date: December 15 th ; possible extension into the Spring season.

Irvine Nature Center is a private, non-profit nature center located in Owings Mills, Maryland. We have 211 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and meadows that support a diverse population of wildlife. We provide more than 800 environmental education programs annually to roughly 95,000 individuals of all ages. Our goal is to expose people to the importance of environmental literacy and show those visiting our property the importance of environmental stewardship. We aim to teach a concern for the planet that translates into actions that help preserve our ecosystem and create a healthier planet!
