ORGANIZATION: San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission

The San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission is a non-profit that offers shelter, clothing, food, case management and much more to homeless men, women, and children in the San Fernando Valley. Our Rescue S.O.S. (Survival Outreach Services) provides 500-600 meals a week to individuals living on the street, as well as a hot shower and basic living necessities. The emergency shelter provides thirty beds for homeless families. Half of the mission’s guests are children 12 and under. Together, these programs offer our guests physical and emotional support, as well as the needed resources and training to help better their position, including help with finding work, housing, and health care.

Summary

The primary function of this position is to assist staff in administration & organization across various disciplines, including volunteer coordination, case management, and office administration. This position will create an incredible opportunity to learn the ins and outs of a nonprofit organization.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist administrative staff in daily operations which may include reception, volunteer coordination and general office duties.
  • Execute administrative and operational tasks for assigned projects, both in day to day operations and for special events.
  • Maintain regular communication, required documentation and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Spanish speaking skills are not a requirement, but would be very helpful.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency, particularly the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access & Publisher)
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage deadlines

Times:

We are looking for dependable volunteers who can commit to at least one shift per week for a minimum of three months at the following times:

  • Administrative Volunteer (morning)
    Available Monday through Friday, 8:30am-12:30pm

  • Administrative Volunteer (evening)
    Available seven days per week from 5:00-7:00pm

Description

Our programs have been designed to provide homeless men, women, children and families an opportunity, not only to obtain food, shelter and basic life necessities, but also provides a foundation for individual and family restoration by developing a personalized plan based on their needs for achieving personal growth, employment, housing.

Currently, the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission provides a variety of programs serving thousands of men, women, children and families including:

* Hearty meals and hot showers to over 500 individuals at four locations each week.

* Two Super Thrift stores that not only help fund the missions activities, but provide an economical alternative for clothing and household items for individuals and families

* An emergency family shelter that provides families up to 90 days of warm and safe overnight shelter, a place to shower, and at least two meals per day.

These programs, coupled with individualized outreach and case management, offer individuals and family’s physical and emotional support, as well as the needed resources and training to help better their position in life.
