Mission Statement

Mission of Hope - Philippines was created in 2009 by the Quirante Family to garner a boundless giving of basic needs and scholastic supplies to students in need while promoting the concept of Loving God, Loving People and Providing Hope.

The specific objectives and purposes of this corporation shall be:

(1) To provide students in need with basic and scholastic materials through donations and funding.

(2) To educate and mentor students to prepare them for their post-graduate lives

(3) To conduct and promote programs to raise awareness to the urgent needs of these students.

(4) To engage in any charitable, educational, and awareness activities permitted by law

(5) To uplift students morale through nurturing and deliverance of Hope.

Description

Our Vision: To provide nutritional assistance to students who do not have the financial means to eat in the cafeteria and who are currently considered a "self-cook". Last year there were approx. 230 students - now there are 364! Students are hungry and this is directly affecting their mental and physical capacity to do well in school. This is a growing problem that needs an immediate solution!

Primary Objectives:
1.To be a part of the solution to providing student nutritional assistance to the students attending school by obtaining a parcel of land within the university campus that is suitable for farming and is easily aessible by these students.

2. To remove these students with nutritional needs from a culturally accepted "survival mode" to a status of good health, self-worth, and a heart filled with hope.

3. To establish a long term self-sustaining programthat will feed students instead of a short term "giving" solution.

Secondary Objective:
1. to provide education and training to these students in the identification, growing, handling, and timely consumption of nutritious fruits and vegetables.

2. to grow not only seasonal vegetables but also fruit trees that will bear fruits for decades.

3. to provide additional employment to students who are willing to work in the farm and need income.

4. to promote honesty and accountability training the manager and workers to submit weekly and periodic reports to Mission Of Hope leadership.

Solution:
1. Re-implement a rice program to supplement food for the "self cook" students weekly while the farm program is beginning - to provide immediate food. Rice is life! It is deeply ingrained in the Filipino culture. Most people cannot imagine sitting down to a meal that doesn’t include at least a little rice. Yet for many students, it is hard to come by when you don’t have any money to buy it. This is why Mission of Hope is asking for your assistance to help with a Rice Program that will provide this basic staple to all the "self-cook" students on a weekly basis until our farm is up and running and producing rice of our own.

2. Implement a fund to be used to provide a "food" voucher for students who do not meet their weekly work requirement due to sickness or an emergency. There are some students who fail to meet the required number of hours a week to qualify for a food voucher due to an emergency or sickness. They are given credit for their hours of labor, but do not receive a food voucher. The result is a student with no means to pay for any food for a week. This voucher program will allow students who fall into this category of despair, to be given a voucher in the amount of 350 PHP to be used to purchase food for the week. This voucher program will be phased out once the farm project is up and running.

3. Establish a farm program that will provide the "self cook" students nutritional vegetables and fruits on a weekly basis.

It is easy to give, but it’s even better to teach and provide. There’s an analogy on philanthropy: You can give a man a fish and he can eat for a day but it is better to teach the man to fish so he may eat for a lifetime. But what about the man who is fishing with little more than string and hook? Giving that man a lure, bait, or a rod would be massively beneficial to their achievement. That in essence is what Mission of Hope aims to accomplish by obtaining a parcel of land within the university campus that is suitable for farming, so that a farm program can be established. This farm will provide nutritious food for the working students at AUP and will generate income with the extra produce to supplement and eventually fully fund the rice and voucher program thus being a self-sustaining food and nutritional source for working students. We have already obtained 5 hectars of land in Oct of 2014 and havae begun our frm program.

4. Sell the extra produce from the farm to pay for the daily operational costs and to supplement a self-supporting rice and voucher program.

Students are living with persistent hunger that require and deserve a sustainable solution that is based on self reliance. Food aid and rice programs alone are not sufficient for combating this problem of hunger. Mission of Hope is addressing the root causes of hunger and is providing a solution that will eliminate this problem of hunger on an immediate and long term scale that is sustainable for future generations of students. Our methodology emphasizes local farmland development and self-reliance. It enables students to eradicate persistent hunger and make them more resilient so that they can focus all their energy on school and on their graduation.
