We are a Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America, a national, not-for-profit voluntary health agency based in the Washington, D.C. Metro area. The purpose of our chapter is:

1. To help individuals affected by Huntington's disease (HD) and their families through support and services

2. To educate both the public and health care professionals about Huntington's disease

3. To promote and support research directed at discovering a treatment and ultimately a care for Huntington's disease

Huntington’s disease, commonly referred to as "HD", is a rare, genetically inherited neurodegenerative fatal disease that affects a person’s ability to walk, talk and reason. It generally strikes between the ages of 30-50, in the prime of life, and takes 10-15 years to run its course.

While there is still no cure for HD, today there is more hope than ever that we can beat this disease. Until then, our volunteers will strive to provide support and sustenance to our HD families, knowing that while research provides hope for the future, we must provide care for the HD community today. We have become an active community, educating, sharing information, and advocating for ourselves and our loved ones.

The Washington, D.C. chapter currently meets at various locations around the Washington, D.C. area in person, as well as by phone. We are actively welcoming new volunteers to join us in furthering our mission to improve the lives of those affected by Huntington's disease.

Current volunteer needs include organizing committee members for the upcoming Team Hope Walk, Board Member openings, and general and administrative duties. Some tasks can be done by computer, remotely. If you would like to volunteer some of your time please contact:
