Thank you for choosing to become a volunteer with the 19th Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem. From this point on, you are part of a team that will help guide you through the world of child advocacy.

This training is the certified pre-service training that is required to become a volunteer for the 19th Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program (GALP). Training is in a relaxing office environment with refreshments so please, dress casual. There will be hourly breaks and a break for lunch. Training will cover things such as: recognizing case notes, activity logs, dependency reports, court orders, permanency notices, educational advocacy, and the path of a case. The perspective and experiences of licensed Child Advocacy Managers (CAMs) and licensed Attorneys will help shape your understanding as to what your role is as a GAL Volunteer. Some of the training is interactive to stimulate and facilitate communication and understanding which is very important in child advocacy. Through this training, you will gain a fresh understanding of why it is important to advocate for children that are in the system.

This will be a two day training. Training days/times will be February 11th and 12th from 9:00am-4:00pm.

Prior to training there is an orientation phase. Please contact Omar Walker (Volunteer Recruiter) at: 772-785-5804 or 5875 for details.

Thank you!

Mission Statement

To provide the most vulnerable children in Florida with an adult from their community who will be a consistent, positive presence in the child’s life as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes an attorney, child welfare professional and hopefully a community volunteer providing the highest quality community advocacy and legal representation to protect each child’s legal interests. To provide dependency judges with thorough and accurate information regarding the children under the court’s jurisdiction.

Description

Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. That's where Guardian ad Litem steps in. The Guardian ad Litem Office represents abused, neglected, and abandoned children in the court and in the community. Our team provides legal representations for these children in expressing their needs, wishes, and best interests. We do this through a unique and holistic approach that supports the whole child, addressing their physical, educational, mental, emotional, social, and legal needs. Guardians ad Litem become people our most vulnerable children can trust. As a team together, we provide powerful, effective, high-quality advocacy with one goal: that every child finds a safe, loving, permanent home where they can thrive.
