GSAC-CAC

The Gwinnett Sexual Assault & Children’s Advocacy Center (GSAC-CAC) is currently seeking LAW STUDENTS interested in our Fall 2015 Volunteer Opportunity. This opportunity is available to all law students who are interested and available to volunteer during the semester.

GSAC-CAC has a legal services program that provides direct, civil legal services to victims of sexual assault. Oftentimes, victims of sexual/physical abuse seek legal advice and representation for a variety of issues, including but not limited to: divorce and custody, temporary protective orders, safety planning, housing, public benefits, unemployment, sexual harassment, and criminal justice explanations. The volunteer will learn about the civil remedies available to sexual assault victims and aid victims and their families in effectively utilizing these avenues of civil redress. In addition to office and case management duties, the volunteer may perform a range of case-related tasks including the following: assisting the GSAC-CAC Staff Attorney, legal research, drafting legal documents, managing subpoenas, and preparing claim applications for the Crime Victims’ Compensation Program.

The volunteer will have the opportunity to develop professional and practical skills through his or her partnership with GSAC-CAC. The GSAC-CAC volunteer will gain real world legal experience as well as have the opportunity to network with attorneys and other professionals within the legal community.

If you’re interested in becoming a legal volunteer, please contact the Training Coordinator, Kelly Burkes, at volunteer@gsac-cac.org to request a volunteer application. The required training will be provided by our Victim Assistance Attorneys. All volunteers must pass a criminal background check.
