PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Prevent and alleviate suffering in the event of local, Chapter-wide, Regional and/or National disasters

REQUIRED TRAINING

The following training is provided by the American Red Cross after the Applicant has been approved for placement in a training position (with the exception of NEVO):

All Disaster Responders:
• New Employee & Volunteer Orientation (NEVO; accomplished during Volunteer Intake Checklist)
• Disaster Cycle Services: An Overview (online or in person)

Disaster Action Team Member: (list below is per recommendation of American Red Cross; Regional application varries and Local Qualifications are available to take the following in stages):
• Orientation to the American Red Cross
• Disaster Cycle Services Overview
• Recovery Services: An Overview
• Casework and Recovery Planning Fundamentals
• Direct Client Assistance Fundamentals
• CAS: Overview video (Recommended)
• CAS: Creating a case video (Recommended)
• CAS: Recovery Planning Video (Recommended)
• Psychological First Aid (Recommended)

Disaster Relief Operation Responders:⦆ Expect 4 to 16 hours of additional training (sometimes more) before you qualify for a specific specialty.⦆ American Red Cross standards for each specialty can be found by⦆clicking on Competencies for the specialty on⦆the Groups and Activities under the Concept of Operations web page on The Exchange (click on blue if you are a General Volunteer; contact Volunteer Services for Competencies if you are a Prospective Volunteer).

You can also advance from the entry level \"Service Associate,\" to \"Supervisor,\" and then⦆to \"Manager\"; or even to Chief, where you'd assist the Operations Director in managing⦆large disasters from a central Operations Center.
