ORGANIZATION: Atlanta Family Hospice and Palliative Care

  • 9 people are interested

As hospice patients progress in their disease process, their ability to participate in activities such as reading and/or writing begins to dwindle. Such activities that hospice patients once enjoyed are limited due to their loss of eyesight, decreased physical strength or inability to concentrate. These activities that patients used to do on a daily basis become too difficult or stressful, causing the patient to not be able to enjoy them any longer. As a volunteer, you can help allow a patient to achieve this enjoyment again by reading to them, playing audio books for them, or writing letters for them.

About Atlanta Family Hospice and Palliative Care

Location:

5950 Live Oak Pkwy, Norcross, GA 30093, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide the highest quality individualized care to patients who face life-limiting illness. We believe the patient and family are one. We extend our support and services to our patients, their families, caregivers, and the communities we serve.

Description

Hospice isn't a place, it is a philosophy and level of extraordinary care. We focus on serving patients at end of life, with a prognosis of six months or less to live, if the disease runs its normal course. Hospice is palliation of pain and system management, not curative focused. We have an interdisciplinary rather than hierarchy approach, to meet the goals and expectations of our patients, as well as their family. Our team consists of Volunteers, nurses, physicians, certified nursing assistants, mastered prepared licensed medical social workers, non-denominational chaplains and spiritual care coordinators, as well as bereavement coordinators and our community partners.
